And I just got back from a visit with my family.

Anyway, I’ll be posting again and working on the site fairly regularly again, but my schedule is still hectic so be patient with me. My emails are really backed up!

But I look forward to chatting with everybody and getting lot’s of new fun and useful things up here soon.

I’m mostly sorry that I missed out on Halloween and election discussions.
beingzoetag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/14472008-11-04T20:34:47-08:002008-11-13T11:20:46-08:00The Countdown Begins..How many days does Bush have left in office?
Finally, the day is over. No more political ads, no more running tickers on the bottom of the screen. No more trying to decide which way to vote. It’s over. The people have spoken, and one way or another Bush was going to have to leave office!

So – now the countdown begins. And according to http://www.backwardsbush.com/
we have 75 days, 22 hours 28 minutes and some change until he has to get packin!
kristen btag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/14432008-11-03T14:26:47-08:002008-11-13T11:20:47-08:00Voting Trivia-Interesting
1960 Highest turnout of voters, comparing elections between 1924 and 2000.

1988 Pat Robertson, TV Evangelist, garnered enough support rallying new activists into the Republican Party that the Party’s platform was made more conservative and carried the State of Washington for Pat Roberson for president. The ground-swell of supporters waned as interest declined leaving the power in the Party to the moderates.

1998 Just 36.4 percent of voters cast their ballots in 1998, the lowest since 1942 – Just over 1 in 3.
Only one in five. Less then 20 percent of 18-24 years-olds chose to vote.

2000 Voter turnout was the lowest than in the previous 20 Presidential Elections.
Only one of 2 1/2 eligible young adults voted in 2000.

Between 1972 and 2000 the national voting turn-out for the 18-24 year age group declined by 10 percent. Only three of four. 75 percent of those over 25 years old voted.

2004 The Issues that mattered most in the 2004 elections were: 22% Moral Values, 20% the Economy, 19% Terrorism. and 15% Iraq.
George W. Bush wins re-election as President receiving the greatest number of popular votes of any presidential candidate in U. S. History.

Fruit, that’s right! Well, at least, they will choose it if it has a candy coating!
This year for school we decided we just couldn’t send more chocolate or candy into the kiddos. So we tried something new, Pear Ghosts.

Buy several pears, dip them by the stem in melted white chocolate or vanilla (it will take 3 or 4 dips for them to look good).
After you have dipped for the last time add 2 chocolate chips for eyes.
Set on wax paper to cool.

But I have to voice my discouragement with the 1090CC. Not the case itself, but the inability to get that case from Pelican!

We have had several customers calling and looking for it somewhere in stock and I in turn have called Pelican to find out “Where is are order”!.

I received yesterday discouraging news!! I was told we are still weeks away??? WHAT!!! I was then informed that Pelican is currently back ordered over 800 cases!! Over the weeks I have been told a ton of stories as to the delay, production problems, quality control problems with the latches and it goes on!! I really don’t know the exact reason for the delay and I probably never will, but I am mad about it! I just don’t understand how you launch a new product, with out being able to distribute it!!

With all that being said, along with the rest of you I wait!!! Are order is still in place at Pelican and when they ship to us, you will hear my shouts of joy nationwide. Ok maybe not my shouts but I will post to let everyone know that they are in stock.

Thanks for letting me rant!!

I wait with all of you – Stacy
Stacy DeGraffenreidtag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/14152008-10-28T18:39:49-07:002008-11-13T11:20:52-08:00How do you spend election day?
Ok so we are now only 7 days away! I just saw an ad “take the day off from work” and it got me to thinking what do people really do on election day. I have to be honest I live for election day, especially on Presidential Elections, and yes I have my routine.

I have always voted first thing in the a.m. before work, there has always been something special about wearing my “I voted” sticker to work!! A few years ago I moved and had to start commuting to work and did not have that luxury, so I started voting absentee but would always drop off in person at a precinct close to work so I could still get my sticker. After work I have always rushed home (in heavier than usual traffic,at least in my mind) gotten the quick shower and put on my most comfy clothes. (Usually sweatpants and sweatshirt which are like 3X too large!)

I always pickup a frozen pizza ahead of time so I don’t have to cook dinner. Then I sit, and watch t.v. This is the one night that I do the channel surf. I go back and forth between every station to get the latest up to date information. Those who know me know that I am early to bed and early to rise. The 4th and 5th of November will be the exception to the rule. I will stay up until a decision has been reached, and yes on Wednesday I will sleep in a bit.

With all that being said, I have never been late to work the day after an election, I have been a bit groggy, and have had to rely on coffee to get me through, but have never called in sick or too tired to work. I have also voted every election since I have been eligible, and again without missing a day of work.

With all that being said I personally think that I can do both, I have supported my candidate. I have volunteered on weekends, have my yard sign (in my case window sign) and have done what I could leading up to the election. And most importantly I will have voted!!

I also think that I make a difference by working, I have people that count on me, customers that want to know that I care about them, and coworkers that would expect nothing less of me.

As for me, I will stand by my regular schedule, It has been time tested and works for me!

I would love to hear what all of you think!!

Remember GET OUT AND VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4TH!!!!
Stacy DeGraffenreidtag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/14132008-10-28T08:40:16-07:002008-11-13T11:20:53-08:00h
Happy Halloween!
dave andersontag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/13692008-10-15T18:13:04-07:002008-11-13T11:20:58-08:00cute bear
OH! look at the cute bear just like DisneyLand. While we sat around gibber-gabbering the other day about some new products being released by Chums and UK Underwater Kinetics he came up with a wacky idea.

Why not give the first person to buy brand new products posted at CoTradeCo 50% off! You heard me right. The first person to buy a brand new product (on the market, not just new to our online catalog :) would get 50% off. So we’re trying it out.

This is a new deal and for the time being applies to ANY BRAND NEW PRODUCT on the market that we sell here at CoTradeCo. The first person to complete a transaction, even pre-order and pay, will get 50% off on those brand new items.

We’ll see how it works out, but Trader Dan thought this fit right in with the spirit of the trading post, wheelin’ and dealin’, and giving people real reasons to keep coming back to CoTradeCo, whether it was for a good deal on the products they need, or sitting’ a spell and chattin’ it up in the communities.
beingzoetag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/13212008-10-07T14:31:49-07:002008-11-13T11:21:03-08:00Seeking expert Guest Bloggers for CoTradeCo communities
Introducing the Guest Blogger program at CoTradeCo

The goal is to inspire topical and useful discussions within the communities and provide opportunity for the community to discuss the articles and related topics with these special guests.

The Guest Bloggers will be featured on our home page and throughout the trading post both in the communities and the store as relevant. Some may laugh but this is a true story!! Last week in a rush to get out the door I had the blow dryer in my left hand and the round brush in my right. (I was trying to straighten out my curly hair at least in the front!!) Well it seems in my rush, my round brush (natural boar bristle) got way to close to my right eye and brushed my eye vs grabbing my bangs. I managed to brush about 1/3 of my cornea. Not something I would recommend!! After spending the last few days in the dark per the Dr’s orders and a few days on pain pills my new solution is from now on when I blow dry my hair, I will wear my goggles! They are vented so this should help with the heat and humidity!! Not a pretty picture, but it beats going through that again!! The Doctor told me this is a fairly common accident, I am not sure if he was just trying to make me feel better or if this is true. I would sure feel better if others would share there stories!!!
Stacy DeGraffenreidtag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/13102008-10-04T20:30:06-07:002008-11-13T11:21:04-08:00Does Benchmark make the FR coveralls in XXXXS?
Today was open house at the Vancouver Washington Fire Department. It is a great community event and it is a great time for everyone! The kids were able to sit in a vintage fire truck, watch firefighters perform drills, and the highlight for my two junior firefighters was watching the firefighters put a fire out on an actual car!

So, as I am sure you can guess, I have 2 aspiring fire chiefs on my hands. Now, all they need is some protective gear and a license to drive!

We received a postcard yesterday indicating that our household would not be able to vote a polling place, since there wouldn’t be one.

NOTICE: This postcare is to notify you that an OFFICIAL BALLOT will be mailed to you for the NOVEMBER 4, 2008 PRESIDENTIAL GENERAL ELECTION.

REASON: There will NOT be a polling place for your precinct this election due to the district boundary lines that divide your area. This causes your precinct to have a small number of registered voters for the candidates and issues specific to your area. (A more detailed explanation will be included with your ballot).

BALLOTS The first date ballot packets can be amiled is October 6, 2008. Please VOTE your official ballot and RETURN it by mail or drop it off at any polling place no later than 8pm on Election Day.

There is NO polling place established for your precinct for this election

Huh? Are there really that few people who are registered to vote near me? Or is it really some wacky redistricting that only includes my house as it’s own district?

I enjoy voting. I like going to the polling place. I like giving my name, having them look up my information on the sheet and having an elderly woman read my name and party affiliation out loud (very loud) for everyone in line to hear. I like seeing the other people and wondering how they are going to vote, and pondering what they must be thinking about how I am going to vote. I like getting the I VOTED sticker and wearing it around like a dork the rest of the day.

So now, my only option is to fill out the ballot and drop it off unceremoniously at a polling place on election day and hope it actually gets counted. I could mail it in sure, but that will have no ritual about it, and somehow it feels like my vote will count even less.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I would also love to hear your thoughts on voting. Do you enjoy it? Do you vote? Why / Why not?
beingzoetag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/12932008-10-02T17:51:45-07:002008-11-13T11:21:05-08:00food for thought
This is a crypt that is partly open. Notice something interesting?
The pictures are especially horrid in quality because I do not have a scanner, so I took photos of the photos (with my cell phone, nonetheless) but I was too excited to post them that to wait. In the very close future, I will have them scanned and will replace them in my post.

Here is a brief description:

The headliner here is Maureen! She has since passed (R.I.P) but was photographed here at a party I was at telling one of her crazy anecdotes!

Next we got me (still in costume) and some dear friends on the opening night of the very successful production, What?, written by zoe.

!0 years prior, I was spotted with an orange shirt and a pair of ghost earrings (made out of fimo clay) the week of Halloween.

Going back sometime before that, you will see some of my neighboorhood pals and I dressed for what I can only hope is Easter dinner?

And us again, clowning around.

Last but not least, we got me looking as wholesome and countryside as Laura from Little House on the Prairie. Odd, that.

Thanks for the links!
For anybody who wants to know about lighting, and flashlights in particular I wanted to recommend (besides visiting CoTradeCo of course ;) the folks over at CandlePowerForums

We first learned about them when we saw some traffic coming from there where folks were debating the then forthcoming Pelican 8060 in the forum thread New Pelican 8060

One fellow linked to our product page, then someone else linked to our comparison photo between the 7060 and the 8060 and we’ve sold at least one Pelican 8060 to leprechaun414 who said in that thread:

Very nice people to deal with. I paid $155 with free shipping, I think either pelican is offering that or this company is offering the free shipping.

To clarify we generally offer free shipping in Southern California and to individuals who work in Law Enforcement, Fire, and the military. This is a trading post after all and we are into wheelin’ and dealin’, but we still gotta make a buck! ;)

But we wanted to thank the folks for linking to us and having a kindly word for us. I’ve signed up on their forum and might be jumping in from time to time over there as well. And we especially wanted to thank leprechaun414 for his link!

We’re currently looking into carrying a lot more brands of flashlights here the trading post, and as we decide which vendors to add to our store catalog and you can bet we’ll be consulting the CandlePowerForums to learn more about what folks need and think about the various brands and lights out there. And we would recommend anybody who needed more advice than we’ve got here, to head on over and check ‘em out!
Trader Dantag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/12652008-09-29T17:39:07-07:002008-11-13T11:24:19-08:00We're all suspects?! Support the ACLU and your rights...
Under new FBI guidelines proposed by Attorney General Michael Mukasey, all the FBI has to do to put anybody they want under prolonged physical surveillance is assert an “authorized purposeâ€? such as detecting or preventing crime or protecting “national security.”

These kinds of Bush/Cheney/Gonzales/Mukasey “just trust us policies have been eroding our rights for the past eight years. After illegal spying and top-level torture policies coming from the White House, this is absurd. Enough is enough!

These new guidelines would allow the FBI to interview you, your friends and family under a false pretext. The FBI could recruit secret informants, and have them infiltrate peaceful protest groups. And the FBI to could initiate investigations based on little more than race, ethnicity or religion.

The FBI could also search commercial databases for personal details about your life with no real reason.

And all of this would be allowed without an ounce of evidence that you or anyone else has done anything wrong.

These guidelines represent one step closer to a police state. And the worst part is that there is good reason to believe the FBI has been violating its internal guidelines all along.

Fortunately, there is something we can do about this before the new regulations are implemented.

I just demanded that the Inspector General at the Department of Justice launch an investigation to determine if the FBI has been violating its own guidelines. The Inspector General’s office at the Department of Justice has proven to be an unbiased, internal watchdog that has consistently exposed wrongdoing. We need to urge the IG to do it again. Take action now at:

Stocks started plummeting on Wall Street even before 228-205 to reject the bill was announced on the House floor.

SO – my next question is, do the companies have to pay the taxes on the bailout money when it does get approved?

I’m sticking with Dave’s post of giving it back to the taxpayers to stimulate the economy on our own. Place it in the “We Deserve It” fund.
kristen btag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/12562008-09-28T19:47:41-07:002008-11-11T01:33:35-08:00“Unreconciled Transactions Affecting the Change in Net Position,â€?
Examples of Government Waste – we’d all be fired if caught doing this..

1. The Missing $25 Billion
Buried in the Department of the Treasury’s 2003 Financial Report of the United States Government is a short section titled “Unreconciled Transactions Affecting the Change in Net Position, which explains that these unreconciled transactions totaled $24.5 billion in 2003
The unreconciled transactions are funds for which auditors cannot account: The government knows that $25 billion was spent by someone, somewhere, on something, but auditors do not know who spent it, where it was spent, or on what it was spent.

2.Unused Flight Tickets Totaling $100 Million
A recent audit revealed that between 1997 and 2003, the Defense Department purchased and then left unused approximately 270,000 commercial airline tickets at a total cost of $100 million. Even worse, the Pentagon never bothered to get a refund for these fully refundable tickets. The GAO blamed a system that relied on department personnel to notify the travel office when purchased tickets went unused.[3]

Auditors also found 27,000 transactions between 2001 and 2002 in which the Pentagon paid twice for the same ticket. The department would purchase the ticket directly and then inexÂplicably reimburse the employee for the cost of the ticket. (In one case, an employee who allegedly made seven false claims for airline tickets professed not to have noticed that $9,700 was deposited into his/her account). These additional transactions cost taxpayers $8 million.

This $108 million could have purchased seven Blackhawk helicopters, 17 M1 Abrams tanks, or a large supply of additional body armor for U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

3. Embezzled Funds at the Department of Agriculture
A recent audit revealed that employees of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) diverted milÂlions of dollars to personal purchases through their government-issued credit cards. Sampling 300 employees’ purchases over six months, investigators estimated that 15 percent abused their government credit cards at a cost of $5.8 million. Taxpayer-funded purchases included Ozzy Osbourne concert tickets, tattoos, lingerie, bartender school tuition, car payments, and cash advances.

4. Credit Card Abuse at the Department of Defense

The Defense Department has uncovered its own credit card scandal. Over one recent 18-month period, Air Force and Navy personnel used governÂment-funded credit cards to charge at least $102,400 for admission to entertainment events, $48,250 for gambling, $69,300 for cruises, and $73,950 for exotic dance clubs and prostitutes.

5. Medicare Overspending

Medicare wastes more money than any other federal program, yet its strong public support leaves lawmakers hesitant to address program effiÂciencies, which cost taxpayers and Medicare recipÂients billions of dollars annually. Putting it all together, Medicare reform could save taxpayers and program beneficiaries $20 bilÂlion to $30 billion annually without reducing benÂefits. That would be enough to fund a $3,000 refundable health care tax credit for nearly 10 milÂlion uninsured low-income households.

6. Funding Fictitious Colleges and Students
n 2002, the Department of Education received an application to certify the student loan participaÂtion of the Y’Hica Institute in London, England. After approving the certification, the department received and approved student loan applications from three Y’Hica students and disbursed $55,000.

The Education Department administrators overÂlooked one problem: Neither the Y’Hica Institute nor the three students who received the $55,000 existed. The fictitious college and students were created (on paper) by congressional investigators to test the Department of Education’s verification proÂcedures. All of the documents were faked, right down to naming one of the fictional loan student applicants “Susan M. Collins,â€? after the Senator requesting the investigation.[12]

Such carelessness helps to explain why federal student loan programs routinely receive poor manÂagement reviews from government auditors. At last count, $21.8 billion worth of student loans are in default, and too many cases of fraud are left undetecÂted.[13] Tracking students across federal programs, verifying loan application data with IRS income data, and implementing controls to prevent the disÂbursement of loans to fraudulent applicants could save taxpayers billions of dollars.

7. Manipulating Data to Encourage Spending

The Army Corps of Engineers spends $5 billion annually constructing dams and other water projects. Yet, in a massive conflict of interest, it is also charged with evaluating the science and ecoÂnomics of each proposed water project. The Corps’ “strategic visionâ€? calls on managers to increase their budgets as rapidly as possible, which requires approving as many proposed projects as possible.[14] Consequently, the Corps has repeatedly been accused of deliberately manipulating its economic studies to justify unworthy projects.

8. State Abuse of Medicaid Funding Formulas

Significant waste, fraud, and abuse pervade Medicaid, which provides health services to 44 million low-income Americans. While states run their own Medicaid programs, the federal governÂment reimburses an average of 57 percent of each state’s costs.

This system gives states an incentive to overreÂport their Medicaid expenditures in order to receive larger federal reimbursements. Not surÂprisingly, the GAO has identified state schemes that shift money between state accounts to create an illusion of higher Medicaid expenditures. SimiÂlarly, some states have spent their federal Medicaid dollars on non-Medicaid purposes. Tight state budgets like those experienced by most states today have increased the pressure to use such deceptive tactics.

9. Earned Income Tax Credit Overpayments

The earned income tax credit (EITC) provides $31 billion in refundable tax credits to 19 million low-income families. The IRS estimates that $8.5 billion to $9.9 billion of this amount—nearly one-third—is wasted in overpayments.

The complexity of the EITC law leads to many of these mistakes. Calculating the credits is more complex than calculating regular income taxes. While the credit amount depends on the number of children in a household, the tax code does not clearly define how a child qualifies for the credit. In addition, fraud and underreporting of income are common, and the IRS lacks the resources to verify the qualifications of all EITC claimants.
kristen btag:topsportsbets.com,2005:Post/12522008-09-28T11:21:33-07:002008-11-13T11:24:19-08:00Testimonial about CoTradeCo and the Pelican 8060
We are always thanking folks for using CoTradeCo whether it is for shopping, networking, or research.
