San Francisco (42-35) at St. Louis (42-38)
The Giants send left-hander Barry Zito (4-7, 4.55 ERA) to the mound at Busch Stadium for the finale of a four-game series with the Cardinals, who will start right-hander Todd Wellemeyer (6-7, 5.68).

Last night, San Francisco’s Matt Cain and St. Louis’ Adam Wainwright engaged in a pitchers’ duel, with neither ultimately figuring in the decision as the Cardinals won 2-1 on a Colby Rasmus homer in the 10th inning. The Giants have still won five of their last eight games – all on the road – and are on further runs of 8-4 overall and 6-3 against winning teams.

Conversely, St. Louis is on a 2-6 slide and carries additional negative streaks of 1-7 against the N.L. West, 2-5 at home and 2-4 against winning teams.

San Francisco has owned this rivalry lately, taking six of the last eight overall, and the Giants have gone 6-3 in their last nine contests at Busch Stadium (4-1 in the last five).
Zito has followed a four-game losing streak by going 3-1 in his last five starts, with the no-decision coming in Saturday’s outing at Milwaukee. In that contest, he got through five innings unscathed and with the Giants leading 4-0, but he gave up back-to-back homers in the sixth inning and exited with two outs and the game tied, and San Fran ended up losing 7-6.

Zito is 3-4 with a 5.20 ERA in eight road starts this season, and he’s 0-3 with a 4.57 ERA in four career starts against St. Louis, including a 6-2 home loss in May in which he allowed three runs on 10 hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings.

The Cards have won three of their last four behind Wellemeyer, but he got the early hook Saturday at home against the Twins, after allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in just 2 1/3 innings of a 5-3 victory. In fact, Wellemeyer has allowed 21 earned runs in 26 1/3 innings over his last five starts, for a 7.17 ERA.

Wellemeyer is 3-5 with a 5.74 ERA in 10 home outings this season, but he’s 2-0 with a much more solid 3.00 ERA in three career starts against the Giants.
The over has hit in four of the last five meetings between these rivals, and the over for the Giants is on runs of 36-18-1 against the N.L. Central, 5-2 behind Zito, 5-1 with the southpaw facing the N.L. Central and 7-3-2 in Zito’s last 12 road starts. On the flip side, the under for the Cardinals is on rolls of 4-1 against lefties, 22-10-1 at home against winning teams, 5-1 with Wellemeyer facing a winning squad and 4-1 behind Wellemeyer at home.

ATS ADVANTAGE: ST. LOUIS

Milwaukee (42-36) at Chicago Cubs (37-38)
The Cubs return from a rough 10-game road trip looking to make up some ground in the N.L. Central when they send right-hander Ryan Dempster (4-5, 4.09 ERA) against the Brewers and fellow righty Seth McClung (3-1, 3.55) at Wrigley Field.

Chicago wrapped up a three-game set in Pittsburgh on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory, getting seven solid innings from Randy Wells (one run on six hits and a walk) and homers from Derrek Lee and Kosuke Fukudome. The Cubs went 3-7 on the road swing, but on their home field, they are on positive runs of 4-0 overall, 6-2 against winning teams and 9-3 against right-handed starters.

Milwaukee got shut out by Mike Pelfrey and the Mets in a 1-0 home setback last night. The Brewers have still won four of their last six and are on further upswings of 16-5 in series openers and 40-19 in division play, but they are on skids against righties of 4-10 overall and 1-4 on the road.

The Cubs have lost five in a row with Dempster starting, mostly due to low run production. Dempster has allowed 11 runs in 30 2/3 innings in that stretch, for a solid 3.22 ERA, but in the first four games of the skid, Chicago totaled just five runs. On Saturday across town against the White Sox, the Cubs’ offense finally got going, but Dempster got roughed up for five runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings of an 8-7 loss.

Dempster is 3-1 with a 4.14 ERA in six home starts this season, and he has been strong against the Brew Crew over the course of his career, going 9-3 with a 2.79 ERA in 37 appearances (15 starts). He has split his two starts against the Brewers this year, both at Milwaukee.

McClung has been almost exclusively a reliever this season, with 29 appearances but just one start. That start came Saturday at home against San Francisco, and he allowed three runs on six hits and two walks in four innings, though Milwaukee rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win 7-6.

McClung is 1-0 with a 3.28 ERA in 14 home appearances this year, and he’s 0-1 with a 2.55 ERA in 10 career appearances against Chicago. This will mark his first start against the Cubs.

The under for the Cubs is on a bundle of runs, including 5-1 overall, 19-6-2 within the division and 11-4 against winning teams, and with Dempster starting, the under is on rolls of 5-1 overall and 4-1 in series openers. With McClung starting, the under for the Brewers is on streaks of 9-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 on the road, but the over for the Brewers is on stretches of 11-5 overall, 7-1 against losing teams and 6-1 on the highway.

Finally, in this rivalry, the over is on surges of 13-6-2 overall, 5-1-2 in Chicago and 5-1 with Dempster taking the ball.

San Francisco (42-34) at St. Louis (41-38)

The surging Giants will try to make it four in a row when they send Matt Cain (9-2, 2.57 ERA) to the mound at Busch Stadium to face the struggling Cardinals and right-hander Adam Wainwright (8-5, 3.51).

San Francisco has won the first two of this four-game set, including Tuesday’s 6-3 victory behind solid pitching from veteran lefty Randy Johnson and scoreless work from three relievers. The Giants have won five of their last seven, all on the road, and eight of their last 11 overall. Meanwhile the Cardinals have dropped six of their last seven and four of five on this homestand.

San Francisco is 6-1 in its last seven matchups with the Cardinals and 6-2 in the last eight played at Busch Stadium. Even with the first two wins in this series, the Giants are just 14-28 against N.L. Central teams and 29-57 on the road against teams with winning records. St. Louis is on several slides that include 0-6 against the N.L. West, 0-4 as a favorite and 2-6 against teams with winning records.

Cain has been superb on the highway this season, posting a 4-1 mark and 2.72 ERA. He did get roughed up on Friday, giving up five runs on six hits in seven innings of a 5-1 loss in Milwaukee, only the second time in his last eight starts he’s allowed more than one earned run in a game. Cain faced these Cardinals on May 29 and held them to two runs (one earned) in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-2 victory. With Cain on the hill, the Giants are on slides of 8-20 as a road ‘dog and 3-18 on the road against teams with a winning record, but they are on runs of 4-1 on the road this season and 4-1 against teams with a winning mark.

Wainwright is 3-4 at Busch Stadium this season with a 2.55 ERA and was solid in his Friday outing, giving up three runs (two earned) over seven innings of a 3-1 home loss to the Twins. He pitched in San Francisco on May 31 and gave up four runs on 10 hits in seven innings of a 5-3 loss. With Wainwright dealing, the Cardinals are on streaks of 18-7 at home, 35-17 overall and 19-7 when they’ve lost their previous game.

San Francisco has stayed under the total in six of Cain’s last eight starts and 12 of his last 18 roadies against teams with winning records. Meanwhile, the Cards have topped the total in six of Wainwright’s last seven starts, but stayed under the number in seven of his last 10 against the N.L. West.

As a team, it’s all “unders” for the Giants, including 15-8-1 on the road, 13-6-1 as a road ‘dog, 8-4 against a right-handed starter and 6-2 in the third game of a series. For St. Louis, the under is on runs of 14-6 as a home favorite, 21-10-1 at home against winning teams and 4-2 overall. In this series, the over has been the play in nine of the last 11 contests.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

L.A. Angels (42-33) at Texas (41-35)

The Rangers snapped the Angels’ six-game winning streak on Tuesday and send veteran righty Kevin Millwood (8-5, 2.64 ERA) to the mound at the Ballpark in Arlington tonight to face Los Angeles’ right-hander, Jered Weaver (8-3, 2.56).

After dropping three straight, Texas came out hitting on Tuesday with eight runs in the first four innings en route to a 9-5 victory over the Angels. The first seven hitters in their lineup all had a hit and the first six all scored at least one run. Los Angeles has won four of five on its current road trip while the Rangers are just 2-3 on the homestand.

Texas has taken six of the last eight meetings against the Angels, who are still rolling with a 13-4 mark in their last 17 overall, 5-1 as a ‘dog and 7-1 on the highway. The Rangers are on streaks of 18-5 against the A.L. West and 8-3 on Wednesdays, but they are just 1-6 against teams with a winning record and 3-6 at home against winning teams.

Weaver has looked shaky in his last two outings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 14 hits over 11 1/3 innings in a loss at home to the Dodgers and a road win in Arizona on Friday. He faced these Rangers on May 17 and gave up three runs on six hits over eight innings but go no offensive support in the 3-0 loss. Los Angeles is 4-1 in Weaver’s last five as a ‘dog and 4-0 in his last four roadies, but just 1-4 in his last five against the A.L. West.

Millwood has been magnificent at home, going 6-1 with a 2.17 ERA in the hitter-friendly Ballpark. Friday, he held the Padres to two runs on four hits in six innings of a 12-2 Rangers’ romp, the seventh straight game he’s allowed three runs or less. Texas, which has won four of Millwood’s last five outings, beat the Angels 10-8 on May 15 when the veteran hurler held them to two runs in six innings. With Millwood on the bump, the Rangers are on runs of 5-1 as a home chalk and 19-7 at home overall, but they are just 1-5 when he pitches the third game of a series and 2-6 when he goes on Wednesday.

With Weaver pitching, the Angels are on “under” streaks of 7-2-1 overall, 4-1-1 against teams with winning records and 5-0 in the third game of a series. With Millwood throwing, Texas is on “under” runs of 20-6-2 overall, 8-2 as a favorite, 11-2-1 at home and 6-0-1 in the third game of a series.

As a team, Los Angeles is on “over” runs that include 7-2 against right-handed starters and 15-7-1 on Wednesdays. Meanwhile it’s been all “under” streaks for the Rangers lately, including 44-18-1 overall, 16-6 as a favorite, 21-6-1 at home, 6-2 against A.L. West rivals and 22-9-1 against a right-handed starter. Finally, in this rivalry, the under is 5-2 in the last six clashes in Texas and 6-0-1 when Weaver takes the hill against the Rangers.

Tampa Bay (43-35) at Toronto (41-37)

The surging Rays send right-hander Matt Garza (5-5, 3.61 ERA) to the mound at Rogers Centre for the second game of their series with the division rival Blue Jays, who will counter with righty Scott Richmond (6-4, 3.68).

Tampa Bay posted a 4-1 victory in Monday night’s opener, with Carl Crawford welcoming Toronto starter Roy Halladay back from the DL with a two-run homer in the third inning. The Rays have won eight of their last nine games, including the last six in a row, and are on a 20-8 run overall. However, Tampa is still just 5-10 in its last 15 road games.

Toronto is on a 16-8 run at home against teams with a losing road record, but the Jays have won just two of their last 12 division contests.

This is the first series of the year between these rivals. Last year, Tampa Bay went 11-7 against Toronto, though the Jays earned a three-game home sweep in their final meeting in early September.

Tampa has lost four of its last six with Garza on the hill, but the 25-year-old was sharp last Wednesday against the World Series champion Phillies in a 7-1 home victory. Garza allowed just one run on three hits and three walks, with seven strikeouts, in eight innings. Garza is 3-3 with a solid 1.99 ERA in six career starts against Toronto, but he’s 1-3 with a 4.29 ERA in six road starts this season, and the Rays have lost in his last five outings on the highway.

Toronto has won eight of 12 games this year with Richmond starting, and the 29-year-old is coming off a good effort at home against Cincinnati last Wednesday. Richmond allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in seven innings of an 8-2 victory. Richmond is 3-2 with a 3.92 ERA in eight appearances (six starts) at home this year, and he is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA in his lone career appearance against Tampa, allowing all three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 3-2 home loss last July.

The under for Tampa Bay is on rolls of 5-1 on the road, 14-5-1 against right-handers, 6-0 overall with Garza starting and 6-0 in Garza’s last six starts on the highway. Likewise, the under for Toronto is on streaks of 7-2-1 against winning teams, 11-4 in division play, 8-2 behind Richmond at Rogers Centre and 4-1 with Richmond facing A.L. East foes.

Finally, in this rivalry, the under has hit in 24 of the last 34 clashes and is on further runs of 15-6 in Toronto and 4-1 with Garza starting against the Jays.

ATS ADVANTAGE: TORONTO and UNDER

L.A. Angels (42-32) at Texas (40-35)

The Angels look to strengthen their grip on first place in the A.L. West when they trot out left-hander Joe Saunders (8-4, 3.66 ERA) to face right-hander Scott Feldman (5-2, 4.06) and the rival Rangers in Game 2 of their series at the Ballpark in Arlington.

Los Angeles earned a 5-2 win Monday in the series opener, on the strength of a four-run sixth inning and a solid six innings from rookie starter Sean O’Sullivan, who allowed two runs (both on solo homers) on six hits and two walks, with five strikeouts. The Halos have won six in row and 13 of their last 16 games, and they are on a 7-0 run on the road.

Texas is 3-8 in its last 11 outings, which helped Los Angeles overtake the Rangers for the division lead. Texas is in an 0-6 rut against winning teams, but the Rangers carry positive streaks of 17-5 in division contests and 8-3 at home against southpaws.

The Rangers are still on a 5-2 run in this rivalry, including a three-game sweep at home in mid-May in the only other series this year between the two teams. The Angels have lost in Saunders’ last four road starts against Texas.

Los Angeles has won three in a row behind Saunders, after dropping his previous three starts. Last Wednesday in an 11-3 home win over Colorado, he allowed just one run (a solo homer) on four hits and a walk in six innings, with six strikeouts. Saunders is 4-2 with a 4.57 ERA in seven road starts this year, with one of those losses coming at Texas, where he got shelled for seven runs on eight hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings of a 10-8 loss on May 15.

Saunders is 3-4 with a 5.48 ERA in eight career starts against the Rangers. On the positive side, with Saunders starting, L.A. is on runs of 54-24 overall, 7-1 in division play, 8-3 on the road and 23-10 against winning teams.

Texas had lost three in row backing Feldman before coming up with a 9-8 win at Arizona last Thursday, with the righty allowing three runs on four hits and a walk in six innings. Feldman is 1-1 with a 3.83 ERA in eight appearances (six starts) at home this year, and he’s 1-3 with a 5.35 ERA in 14 appearances (five starts) against Los Angeles. On May 17, he threw six shutout innings in a 3-0 home win over the Angels but got a no-decision.

The Rangers are 8-3 in Feldman’s last 11 starts, but they are on slides behind Feldman of 4-12 at home and 3-8 against winning teams.

The over for Los Angeles is on streaks of 11-6-1 overall, 5-0 with Saunders taking the ball and 6-2 with Saunders facing the Rangers. On the flip side, the under for Texas is on rolls of 44-17-1 overall, 5-0 at home against lefties, 6-1 in the A.L. West, 24-6-1 at home, 27-11 with Feldman starting and 7-0 behind Feldman in Arlington.

Finally, in this rivalry, the under has hit in five of the last six meetings in Texas.

After salvaging one game in a weekend set in Milwaukee, the Giants move on to St. Louis’ Busch Stadium where they will send ace Tim Lincecum (7-2, 2.57 ERA) to the mound opposite the Cardinals’ Brad Thompson (2-3, 4.50).

San Francisco got a 7-0 win on Sunday over the Brewers after dropping the first two games of the series. Young hurler Ryan Sadowski led the way, throwing six inning of shutout baseball in his first major league start. St. Louis fell to the Twins on Sunday, 6-2, dropping the Cards to 1-5 in their last six overall. In this series, the Giants have won four of the last five.

The Giants are on slides of 12-28 against teams from the N.L. Central and 9-20 on the road against teams with winning records. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 9-4 in their last 13 against right-handed starters, but just 17-35 on Mondays, 0-5 against the N.L. West and 2-8 in series openers.

Lincecum is 4-1 on the road with a 2.57 ERA and he’s 2-1 in his last three outings with a 1.38 ERA. Tuesday he gave up one run in a complete-game, 4-1, win in Oakland. He’s lasted at least six innings in each of his last 10 starts and held the opposition to three runs or less in nine of those 10, including seven straight. Last time he was in St. Louis was April 2008 when he held the Cardinals scoreless for seven innings in a 3-0 San Francisco victory. With Lincecum on the mound, the Giants are on runs of 5-2 on the road, 9-3 in series openers and 7-3 against N.L. Central squads.

Thompson has made three straight road starts, including Wednesday in New York when the Mets got him for five runs in five innings and beat the Cardinals 11-0. He’s allowed three runs or more in five of his last seven outings and has a 5.12 ERA at home this season. In his lone start against the Giants, he allowed two runs in two innings back in 2006. With Thompson starting, the Cardinals are on streaks of 10-3 at home, 9-4 overall and 6-2 against the N.L. West.

The under has been the play for the Giants in Lincecum’s last four starts and it is 4-1 in his last five outings after five days of rest. The under has also been the play in eight of Thompson’s last 11 starts overall, including four of his last five at Busch.

As a team, the Giants are on “under” streaks of 15-6-1 on the road, 6-2 overall, 5-1 against right-handed starters and 7-2 on the road against teams with winning home records. For the Cardinals, the “over” is 5-1 in their last six against the N.L. West, but the “under” is on runs of 14-6 at home, 5-1 overall and 21-8-1 at home against a team with a winning record. In this series, the “over” has been the play in seven of the last nine.

With interleague play now out of the way, the top two teams in the American League West open a three-game set at the Ballpark in Arlington when the Angels send Sean O’Sullivan (1-0, 3.00 ERA) to the mound to face Rangers’ veteran Vicente Padilla (6-3, 4.48).

Los Angeles comes in having won five in a row, including a three-game sweep in Arizona that concluded with Sunday’s 12-8 victory. Texas has won four of six overall but lost two straight at home to the Padres over the weekend, finishing the series with a 2-0 loss Sunday.
The Rangers swept a May three-game home series over the Angels and they’ve won five of the last six series clashes dating back to last season. Otherwise, Los Angeles is on several positive runs, including 6-0 on the road, 6-1 in series openers and 6-2 on the road against teams with winning records. Texas has dropped five in a row against teams with winning records, but it is on runs of 17-4 against A.L. West rivals, 5-2 overall and 5-2 against right-handed starters.

O’Sullivan is making just his third career start, looking sharp in his first two big-league outings. He gave up three runs on six hits in five innings of a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday and held the Giants to one run on five hits in seven innings of an 8-1 win in his debut on June 16.
Padilla has looked great in his last three starts, going 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA. On Wednesday, he allowed one run through seven innings of a 2-1 Texas win at Arizona and the Rangers have won six of his last eight starts. With Padilla starting, they are also on runs of 35-17 overall, 6-2 in series openers and 12-3 when Padilla starts against the A.L. West. He faced the Angels back on May 16 and gave up just three runs in eight innings of a 5-3 Texas victory. The Rangers have won three of his last four starts against Los Angeles and is 6-3 with a 4.72 ERA in his career against the Angels.

With Padilla on the hill, the Rangers are on “over” runs of 22-5-2 in series openers, 4-0 on Mondays and 20-9-1 against teams with winning records. As a team, Texas is on a plethora of “under” streaks that include 43-17-1 overall, 23-6-1 at home, 5-1 against the A.L. West and 7-0-1 at home against teams with winning records. The Angels have topped the total in four straight Monday games, five straight series openers and six of seven against right-handed starters. In this rivalry, the over is 7-3-1 in Padilla’s last 11 against the Angels, but the under is 4-1 in the last five overall in Texas.

A pretty cool FYI for those of you that play “streak for the cash” on ESPN. Our pro capper TSB Mike is on the leaderboard page, top 50 I believe. God only knows how many people play streak for the cash. My guess would be in the six figure range, possibly more. His streak currently sits at 13 wins, and his overall record is pretty damn impressive, considering basically every game that is offered is more or less a pick em. There are a lot of problems for the home team. Boston is red hot and patient at the plate. They love to draw walks and Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson has walked 15 in 23 innings, a terrible ratio. And he’s getting worse, walking 14 in his last three starts (17 innings). The Red Sox feast off pitchers who walk too many batters, clogging the bases. Hanson may be 3-0, but he’s allowed a whopping 38 base runners in 23 innings! Boston has a great bullpen, plus starter Brad Penny has been very good, 6-2. He has a sizzling 1.62 ERA his last three starts. The wrong team opened as the favorite. Play the Red Sox!

The Giants are just 1-15 in his last 16 starts against N.L. Central teams.Zito has struggled against the Brewers, losing three of his four career outings, including all three in Milwaukee. He’s allowed 21 runs in 14 1/3 innings of work at Miller Park since 2007.McClung hasn’t made a start since September of last year. The reliever last pitched on Tuesday, throwing one inning and allowing one hit against the Twins. He started 12 games in 2008, going 6-6 with a 4.02 ERA.With Zito on the hill, the Giants have stayed under the total in eight of his last nine Saturday starts, and overall, they are on “under” streaks of 9-3-1 on the road, 5-1 overall and 6-2-2 on Saturdays. San Francisco (39-32) at Milwaukee (38-34)

The top two teams in the National League wild-card chase begin a three-game weekend series at Miller Park, with the Giants’ Matt Cain (9-1, 2.28 ERA) slated to oppose Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo (7-4, 3.00).

San Francisco took Thursday off after scoring back-to-back wins at Oakland to wrap up the interleague portion of its schedule. The Giants have won five of their last six games and are on additional positive runs of 9-4 against winning teams, 6-2 after an off day and 4-0 on Friday. However, they’re just 11-26 in their last 37 games against the N.L. Central.

The Brewers continued their slump with Thursday’s 6-4 home loss to the Twins, as they’ve now dropped five of their last six and 11 of their last 16, going 2-7 at Miller Park during this stretch. They’re also in ruts of 1-5 against the N.L. West and 2-8 versus right-handed starters, but on the bright side Milwaukee has won 17 of 25 against opponents with a winning record and 14 of 19 series openers.

Milwaukee swept the six-game season series from the Giants last year by a combined tally of 49-18. However, when they went to San Francisco to open the 2009 season, the Brewers dropped two of three, getting outscored 19-11. Still, Milwaukee has won 14 of the last 17 meetings at Miller Park.

The Giants have won nine consecutive games behind Cain, including four straight on the road. The veteran right-hander is 7-0 during this nine-game stretch, giving up one earned run or fewer in seven of those games. Cain yielded a single run in each of his last two starts – both at home – covering 17 innings, with San Francisco beating Oakland 7-1 and Texas 2-1.

Cain is 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA in six road starts this year and 1-2 with a 4.05 ERA in three career starts against the Brewers. That one victory over Milwaukee came in his season debut April 9, as he gave up just one run on four hits in seven innings, rolling to a 7-1 home triumph.

Gallardo was a tough-luck 3-2 loser at Detroit on Sunday, yielding all three runs on six hits while striking out eight in seven innings. The right-hander has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six straight starts and 12 of his 14 outings this season. With Gallardo on the hill, the Brewers are on upticks of 8-3 overall, 4-1 at home, 4-1 on Friday and 4-0 in series openers.

Since giving up seven runs in his first home start of the season – a 7-6 loss to the Reds – Gallardo is 3-1 with a 1.44 ERA in his last five at Miller Park, allowing a total of five earned runs in 31 1/3 innings. Also, he opened his 2009 season at San Francisco on April 8, giving up just two runs in 6 2/3 innings of a 4-2 victory, improving to 2-1 with a 5.63 ERA in three starts against the Giants.

The under is 5-2 in Cain’s last seven trips to the mound and 5-1 in his last six against winning teams. Also, Gallardo is on “under” rolls of 16-7 overall, 8-3-1 in series openers, 8-1 versus winning teams and 5-0 on Friday.

For San Francisco, the “under” is on streaks of 4-1 overall, 8-3-1 on the road, 8-2 on Friday, 4-1 against right-handed starters and 5-2 after a day off. Meanwhile, Milwaukee has topped the total in eight of its last 10 overall, but the under is 8-2-1 in its last 11 Friday contests and 6-1 in its last seven against the N.L. West. Conversely, the over is 21-7-2 in the last 30 Brewers-Giants battles overall and 10-2-2 in the last 14 clashes at Miller Park.

N.Y. Yankees (40-32) at N.Y. Mets (37-34)

Five days after getting pulled from a start because of an arm problem, Yankees ace CC Sabathia (6-4, 3.71) returns to the mound as he opposes Mike Pelfrey (5-2, 4.74) as the final Subway Series of the season begins at Citi Field.

The Yankees are coming off consecutive blowout wins in Atlanta by scores of 8-4 on Wednesday and 11-7 on Friday. Still, the Bronx Bombers are just 6-9 in their last 15 games overall, including dropping six of nine on the highway. Their current 3-5 funk has all come against teams from the N.L. East, and they’re 2-7 in their last nine games on the road against right-handed starters. However, Joe Girardi’s team has won six of its last seven on Friday.

The Mets and Johan Santana held off the Cardinals and Chris Carpenter 3-2 on Thursday afternoon for their second straight win. Although they took three of four from St. Louis, like their rivals from the Bronx, the Mets have been lacking consistency, going 9-13 in June, including 5-5 at home and 2-4 in their last six interleague games (all against the A.L. East). On the bright side, Jerry Manuel’s squad is on hot streaks of 9-1 on Friday, 16-5 in series openers and 18-8 at home versus southpaw starters.

The Yankees took two of three from the Mets two weekends ago at Yankee Stadium, including a 15-0 series-ending whitewash on June 14. The Yanks are 4-2 in the last six head-to-head clashes.

Sabathia was pulled with one out in the bottom of the second inning Sunday at Florida because of a biceps injury, and he gave up one run on three hits with the Yankees eventually falling 6-5. Prior to Sunday, the hefty lefty had pitched at least seven innings in eight consecutive starts, but with the loss in Florida, the Yankees are now just 2-4 in their ace’s last six outings.

Sabathia is 4-3 with a 3.44 ERA in eight road starts this season and 6-2 with a 2.49 ERA in eight nighttime contests. Also, in his only career start against the Mets back in 2004 when he was with Cleveland, Sabathia gave up just a run on six hits in eight innings, winning 9-1.

Pelfrey surrendered four runs on eight hits in five innings on Sunday, failing to get a decision in his team’s 10-6 home loss to Tampa Bay. Despite that subpar outing, the right-hander has still given up two earned runs or fewer in six of his last eight outings. Also, with Pelfrey pitching, the Mets remain on positive runs of 13-6 at home, 5-2 on Friday, 4-1 in interleague action, 9-3 in series openers and 7-2 in night starts this year.

Pelfrey is 2-0 with a 3.95 ERA in seven home starts this year, and in his lone career meeting against the Yankees exactly a year ago, he earned a 15-6 road win despite giving up four runs, eight hits and four walks in five innings.

With Pelfrey on the hill, the “over” is on stretches of 4-0 overall, 4-1 in interleague play, 9-4-1 at home and 4-0-1 on Friday.

The Yankees are riding a bunch of “under” streaks, including 6-3 overall, 7-3-1 on the highway, 14-5 in interleague play, 13-5 against the N.L. East, 5-1 on Friday and 5-2 when Sabathia pitches on the road. Also, the under is 6-1 in the Mets’ last six at home, 7-2 in the Mets’ last nine against left-handed starters and 36-16-2 in their last 58 Friday contests. Finally, the last four Subway Series meetings at old Shea Stadium stayed under the total.

Philadelphia (37-32) at Tampa Bay (38-35)

Last year’s World Series participants wrap up a three-game series at Tropicana Field, with the Rays trotting out right-hander Andy Sonnanstine (5-7, 6.60 ERA) opposite Phillies rookie Antonio Bastardo (2-2, 5.21).

Tampa Bay bounced back from Tuesday’s 10-1 shellacking to the Phillies and delivered their own beat-down Wednesday, rolling to a 7-1 victory. The Rays have won nine of their last 13 overall and are on further rolls of 80-33 at the Trop, 45-17 when hosting teams with a winning record, 5-1 in interleague home games and 6-2 against the N.L. East.

Philadelphia, which entered this series coming off a dismal 1-8 homestand, still have baseball’s best road mark at 24-10, and they’re 38-17 in their last 55 roadies dating to last season. However, they’re now on a 10-20 nosedive in interleague road contests and they’ve dropped seven of their last eight in interleague play.

Philadelphia took out Tampa Bay in five games in last year’s Fall Classic, with the home team going 4-1, and the Phils have won four of the last five in this rivalry. These squads have met 14 times since 2000, and the host has gone 10-4, with the Rays winning six of their last eight clashes at the Trop.

The Rays have alternated wins and losses in Sonnanstine’s last six starts, with the righty going 3-3 in that stretch. Last Friday against the Mets, he allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks in a 5-3 road loss. Sonnanstine hasn’t been beaten at home this year, going 4-0 with a 4.15 ERA in five starts.

Tampa is 1-5 in Sonnanstine’s last six starts against winning teams, but the Rays are on runs behind Sonnanstine of 4-0 at home, 9-2 against winning teams at the Trop and 7-2 in interleague play. Sonnanstine lost his lone career start against Philly in Game 4 of last year’s World Series, a 10-2 road blasting as he allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks in just four innings.

Bastardo has taken the loss in his last two starts after winning his first two big-league contests. Last Friday against Baltimore, he gave up four runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts in a 7-2 home loss. Six days earlier at home against Boston, he threw just one inning, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits and three walks in an 11-6 defeat. Bastardo is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in his two road outings, and this will be his first game against the Rays.

The under for Tampa Bay is on streaks of 5-2 overall (all in interleague play), 9-4-1 at home, 25-10-1 in interleague home games, 5-0 with Sonnanstine facing a winning team and 5-2 behind the righty at home. Likewise, Philadelphia is riding “under” streaks of 18-9-1 in interleague play, 7-1 in A.L. ballparks and 6-2-1 on artificial turf, though the over has hit in four of the Phils’ last six road games.

Finally, the under is 5-2-1 in the last eight head-to-head meetings in Tampa Bay.

ATS ADVANTAGE: TAMPA BAY and UNDER

N.Y. Yankees (39-32) at Atlanta (34-37)

The Yankees finally got back in the win column last night in Atlanta and now send left-hander Andy Pettitte (7-3, 4.26 ERA) to the mound at Turner Field to wrap up a three-game series with the Braves, who will counter with right-hander Derek Lowe (7-5, 4.09).

After getting shut out 4-0 in the series opener Tuesday, New York finally busted out the bats en route to an 8-4 victory Wednesday to halt a three-game losing skid. The Yankees remain just 5-9 in their last 14 games, following a 19-6 surge that had them atop the A.L. East. Joe Girardi’s squad is on further skids of 2-6 on the road and 1-4 against right-handed starters.

Atlanta is on upticks of 5-3 at Turner and 13-7 against winning teams, and in interleague play, the Braves are on rolls of 6-1 at home and 8-4 against winning teams. However, they’ve gone just 3-9 in their last 12 interleague home games against lefties.

After winning four in a row behind Pettitte, New York has split his last four starts. Most recently, Pettitte shut down host Florida last Friday in a 5-1 victory, allowing one run on three hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts against no walks. The southpaw is 4-1 with a solid 2.35 ERA in six road starts this season, and he’s 5-1 with a 3.13 ERA in nine career starts against Atlanta.

With Pettitte on the hill, the Yankees are on upswings of 6-2 overall, 5-1 on the road, 5-1 in interleague play, 17-6 against the N.L. East and a lengthy 67-28 against opponents with a losing record.

Atlanta has dropped two in a row and four of five backing Lowe, including Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Boston, in which he allowed all three runs on seven hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. Prior to that, he went just 2 1/3 innings in an 11-2 loss at Baltimore, yielding a season-high seven runs on eight hits and three walks.

Lowe is 3-1 with a 3.27 ERA in seven home starts this season, but he’s 8-10 with an inflated 6.07 ERA in 39 career appearances (15 starts) against the Yankees. On the positive side, the Braves are 4-1 in Lowe’s last five starts against winning teams.

The under is on a bundle of runs for New York, including 6-2 overall, 8-2 against losing teams, 19-8 in interleague play and 7-2 in interleague roadies. Plus, with Pettitte starting, the under is on rolls of 43-17-1 overall, 28-10 on the road, 10-1 against the N.L. East and 16-5-1 in interleague contests. For Atlanta, the under is on stretches of 5-2-1 overall, 5-1 at home, 6-1 with Lowe starting and 4-0 behind Lowe at Turner.

Finally, last night’s game easily topped the posted total, ending a 5-0 “under” run in this rivalry.

Texas is slipping in the American League West. After having a four-game lead just 10 games ago, the lead has been cut to zero as the Angels have caught Texas in the division. The Rangers did pick up a much needed win last night and it was unexpected as they were able to beat Dan Haren thanks to an even better effort from Vicente Padilla. Arizona continues to struggle on offense as it has been hit or miss with this team. The Diamondbacks could get some production tonight from the bats as they square off against Scott Feldman. Feldman has a terrific run of six straight quality starts but his last three have produced none and things could be going from bad to worse as team are finally starting to figure him out. He is 4-1 on the road but his ERA is 4.26 which is nothing great and only half of his road outings have been quality performances. He squares off against Jon Garland who is turning the corner in the other direction. Despite Arizona losing his last six starts, three of his last four outings have been quality starts including his last two where has allowed a combined three runs in 14 innings of work. Obviously the run support has been lacking but that has not been the case at home where the Diamondbacks have averaged 6.0 rpg in his seven home starts. His 7.82 home ERA looks atrocious but four of those seven starts have been good ones and that inflated number is attributed to three games and even though it is three too many, he is in a better state right now to follow up his last start at Chase Field which was in fact a quality performance. Arizona falls into a solid underdog situation as well. Play against road favorites of less than -150 with a starting pitcher who averages three or fewer strikeouts per outing going up against a National League opponent with a starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.55 to 1.65 on the season. In their last three games the Northern birds, they have been in full flight, popping 24 runs on the board. Going back a little further the Jays have scored 7 more runs or more 6 times in the L/8 games with their 4-5 hitters batting a combined .388 with five homers in those contests. Opposing hurler Bannister of KC has been on fire the last three times on the diamond with a super 1.29 ERA. The Detroit Tigers have won six in a row and own one of the better home marks at 22-11.

But there’s a reason why they are a home ‘dog today. That reason is a pitching matchup of Ted Lilly against Armando Galarraga. It’s enough to make me lay a small price on the Cubs.

Lilly is underrated. He has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the National League this season. He’s 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA in his last 10 starts. He has a 23-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio during his past 23 1/3 innings.

Lilly is well suited to pitch in spacious Comerica Park, too, being a fly ball pitcher.

As for Galarraga, he shouldn’t even be in the majors anymore. He is 0-7 with a 7.48 ERA in his last 10 starts. Opponents are batting .343 against him during this span.

The Cubs are one-for-23 with runners in scoring position during the first two games of this series. A correction is due in short order. Expect it to happen in this matchup.
The Tigers’ bullpen worked four innings on Wednesday night. Closer Fernando Rodney had a rocky ninth inning throwing 24 pitches before getting out of a jam.

The Tigers are red hot at home. They’ve won six straight in the friendly confines and look to make it seven in a row when they go for a three game sweep of the Cubs. A victory today would also give Detroit a perfect 6-0 homestand. However the Tigers will need a solid outing from Armando Gallaraga to have a shot at perfection.

Gallaraga, who was nothing short of brilliant last season, has been nothing short of awful this season. He’s 3-7 with a 5.62 ERA and hasn’t won since April 26. Gallaraga is also 0-7 his last 10 starts.

Needless to say Chicago’s got a huge pitching advantage with Ted Lilly on the hill. The veteran lefty has made four starts this month and has been brilliant in each one of them posting a 1.98 ERA. On the season Lilly has made 11 quality starts, meaning he’s gone at least six innings in each of those outings. Over his last ten starts he’s 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA.

However there are some other numbers that favor a play on Detroit. Like the Cubs six-game losing streak to the Tigers daring back to 2001. Or how about the fact that the Cubs offense has gone south. Chicago has scored seven total runs while losing the first three of its 10-game stretch away from Wrigley Field. They’ve stranded 31 runners during its slide and if your not hitting with runners in scoring posistion, bad streaks tend to continue

To loosely paraphrase Miss South Carolina, where as the Tigers can really hit the ball (8th in homeruns and 9th in scoring) the Cubs, you know, don’t whereas hit the ball very well. Chicago is 22nd in runs scored, 24th in OPS and 26th in batting average.
Is Ted Lilly the better pitcher today? Absolutely he’s head and shoulders above Gallaraga. However Lilly can’t do much about the Cubs anemic offense and that’s why I’m playing the Tigers in this one.

Tonight we’ll make it three in a row as we play the Braves at home against the Yankees.

A classic pitching matchup about eight years ago taking place tonight in Atlanta as the Yankees send lefty Andy Pettite (7-3, 4.26 ERA) to the mound at Turner Field to face the Braves’ Derek Lowe (7-5, 4.09).

We’re going to play the home team as they Yankees are just 5-9 in their last 14 overall, 2-6 on the road and 1-4 against right-handed starters.

Lowe is 3-1 in his starts in Atlanta this season with a 3.27 ERA and the Braves are 4-1 in his last five starts against winning teams. Saturday he gave up three runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings at Boston in a 3-0 loss. He has plenty of experience against the Yankees, going 8-10 in 39 career appearances against the Bronx Bombers.

The Braves are on positive streaks of 5-3 at home, 13-7 against winning teams and in interleague games, they are on runs of 6-1 at home, and 8-4 against winning squads.

Look for Atlanta to get great pitching from Lowe and get enough runs across the plate to make this an easy winner. It’ll be in the 5-2 range.

I handed you a FREE WIN for the third time in four days with the Blue Jays downing the Reds on Wednesday. We’ll it keep it rolling today with another interleague matchup.

As a pitcher for the Red Sox from 1997 through 2004, Derek Lowe is no stranger to facing the Yankees.

The sinkerballer dominated the last time he faced New York, allowing one hit in six innings on two days’ rest in Game 7 of the 2004 American League Championship Series. In 39 regular-season appearances vs. the Yankees, however, Lowe’s ERA was 6.07.

Now with the Braves, Lowe (7-5, 4.09 ERA) has been solid at Turner Field, going 3-1 with a 3.27 ERA in seven starts. But he has struggled on the mound lately, going 1-2 with a 7.47 ERA over his last three starts.

Lowe will be opposed by a familiar face in Andy Pettitte (7-3, 4.26), who has thrived when away from hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. Pettitte is 4-1 with a 2.35 ERA on the road, and he allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings Friday in New York’s 5-1 win at Florida.

And Pettitte has had pretty good success against the Braves, going 5-1 with a 3.13 ERA against them in nine regular-season starts, and pitching 8 1/3 shutout innings in Game 5 of the 1996 World Series.

Atlanta hasn’t won a series since sweeping Toronto from May 22-24, and is 11-17 since then. I don’t see the Braves breaking through today. Go with the Yankees.

Another winner on the Tigers last night, as we are now on a 13-8 comp play run the last 3 weeks.

For Thursday night, take the Yankees to capture the rubber game of their three game series with the Braves.

New York claimed the 8-4 win last night, and starter Andy Pettitte has been much better on the road this year then he has been at home.

At home, the southpaw is just 3-2 with an ERA near 6. On the road, Pettitte has gone 4-1 with a slim 2.35 ERA, and he is fresh off a road win over Florida last Friday night. The guy likes to pitch in the heat, and he will get some heat tonight in HOT-lanta.

Derek Lowe counters off back-to-back losses, allowing 10 runs in just 8 innings of work.

The New York bats showed some life last night, and we like them to show some more life tonight in the win.

Baltimore +110 at FLORIDA

Now on a 20-9 roll with the plays I’m giving away. For tonight’s complimentary play, we’re looking at the Baltimore/Florida match-up.

Good value to be had here with the Orioles, as they attempt to avoid the sweep tonight at Landshark Stadium. Although the O’s have traditionally struggled vs. the Fish, they have a couple things going for them in this match up, and it all starts with the pitching match up…

While rookie Sean West had had some nice efforts this season, his last two starts were anything but “nice.” He got tagged for 4 runs in 5 2/3 innings at Toronto (walking 4), but escaped with the win. And then, in his last one, he allowed 5 runs on a whopping 10 hits in just 4 innings against the Yankees at home. Rookie tend to have their ups-and-downs, and right now, I simply cannot trust West in this spot.

Another problem for West and the Marlins is that it appears Rich Hill may have finally found his groove. It took him some time after missing part of the season, but his last start was vintage, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits over 6 2/3 innings at the Phillies. He did walk 4 batters, but overall it was one of his best starts of the season, and one he can definately build off of.

Finally, don’t discount the Orioles offense in this contest, as despite their two straight losses, they’ve been swinging the bats extremely well of late. Note, over their last 10 games Baltimore is batting .310 as a team, including .286 against lefties… You best believe they’ll get plenty of oppurtunities against the rookie West! In the end, the Marlins enjoyed big-time pitching edges in the first two games of this series, but this time around, the edge goes to the Orioles. Look for that to be the difference in this contest, as the O’s avoids the sweep Thursday night!

Take Baltimore behind Hill over Florida and West in this MLB match up.

I’m playing the Phillies on Thursday. Tampa Bay has been unable to figure out southpaws in home night games this season. In fact, they enter tonight’s contest with a 0-5 mark in this spot, scoring just 2.6 rpg. Philly southpaw Antonio Bastardo has three decent outings in his four starts this season. He’s also much like the rest of the team…performing well on the road, and not so hot at home. Bastardo is 2-0 in his two road starts this season, allowing just three earned runs and 13 base runners in 11 innings. That’s a 2.45 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Meanwhile, the Phils normally clobber righties away from home. Tonight, they face Andy Sonnanstine, who has been tagged for a 5.32 ERA in his last three outings. They will be facing a pitcher in Scott Feldman who has been pretty good this season with just a 3.18 ERA in 11 starts. This pick falls into one of my top MLB systems and there is just too much value here tonight to pass up with the superior overall team at this low price. The Red Sox are now 10-1 in their last 11 games against the Red Sox and they are 8-1 in their last 9 road games. John Smoltz makes his 1st start since June.2 2008 so he will likely be limited to 85-90 pitches and he has dominated the Nationals since 2007 with an ERA of just 1.77 over 7 starts against them. Smoltz pitched solid over his 6 rehab starts in the minors with an ERA of just 2.63 and I look for him to have a solid outing against this Nationals line-up tonight. The Red Sox are an AL best 15-5 in June and their bullpen has pitched solid on the road this season with an ERA of just 2.97 over 109 innings so if Smoltz does get into trouble they can depend on their bullpen. The Nationals are just 1-6 in Jordan Zimmermann’s (2-3, 5.03 ERA) last 7 starts and they are just 2-9 in their last 11 games as a underdog of +110 to +150. Zimmerman has only lasted an average of 5.6 innings per start over his last 3 outings and the Nationals bullpen although they have pitched better lately they have struggled at home this season with an ERA of 5.40. Chicago Cubs @ Detroit Tigers

Ted Lilly has been the most consistent starter for the Chicago Cubs this season, while Armando Galarrago has allowed three earned runs in four of his last five starts for the Detroit tigers after an abysmal month of May.

Lilly has a 3.04 ERA and an excellent 1.06 WHIP in 91.2 innings this year, and perhaps most impressively, he now has nine Quality Starts in his last 10 starts. He has allowed two runs or less in four of his last five outings, and he is facing a Tigers lineup that is suddenly struggling vs. left-handed pitchers, batting only .208 vs. southpaws over the last 10 games. Also, the Under is 9-5, 64.3 percent in all games started by Lilly this season.

Galarraga had a break-through season last year followed by a terrific April, so his meltdown in May came seemingly out of the blue. His recent return to form is more indicative of his true form though, and the fact that the Cubs have never faced him before gives him an added advantage. It also helps that the Cubs have a poor .237 team batting average on the road this year while averaging only 3.76 runs per game.

Do not look for much scoring in Motown early this afternoon.

The Washington Nationals have been terrible this season and I believe we are getting some good line value today with Boston even though this is the first start for Smoltz this season. On get away day I am hearing that Washington is going to sit their best hitter Adam Dunn today and that is big for Boston in this series. Boston has dominated the Nationals in this series winning both games by 2 runs and 8 runs which is a 5 run average. Zimmermann is pitching for the Nationals today and he has been not bad in his last 4 starts but run support has been a problem only averaging 2 runs of support in his last 3 games. Nationals are 12-25 at home this season which is 13 games under .500 at home. Boston has won 8 out of there last 9 road games and are looking for the sweep today in Washington which should be easy for them to get. We believe that Boston should be a big favorite in this game because of a 3 ER difference in the bullpens average and we see Boston winning this game in the 6th-9th innings today.

The Texas Rangers have finally snapped their losing streak, but they’re still trying to break out of a surprising offensive slump. A matchup with Jon Garland may help. The Rangers have traditionally presented major problems for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ right-hander, but Garland will be coming off one of his best outings of the season when the teams settle their three-game set in Phoenix on Thursday night. For his career, Garland is 5-8 with a 6.39 ERA versus Texas, and Chris Davis has two home runs in five at-bats off Garland. A reliable start goes for NY, which is a key with this team, because the offense is loaded, ranked 2nd in the AL in runs, first in slugging an even 5th in steals. The slumping Atlanta offense has never faced hard throwing Joba Chamberlain before (3-2, 3.89 ERA). Atlanta won a series Monday in a make-up game with the Cubs, but take a closer look: The Braves have gone 1-5-3 in their last nine series. And this is a tough stretch, facing the Yankees, Boston Red Sox and defending champion Philadelphia Phillies over the next 9 days. This Atlanta offense has struggled all season, ranked 11th in the NL in runs and 9th in OBP. Have to back the talented and balanced visitors. Play the NY Yankees.

Last year we ran a live pick by pick NBA draft for bodog live betting. Same thing we did this year for the NFL draft. We won’t be able to do that today, but TSB Mike will have a few picks he really likes. One thing we have absolutely DESTROYED is the drafts, so looking forward to that.

Milwaukee (37-31) at Detroit (37-31)

The leaders of the A.L. and N.L. Central Divisions wrap up their three-game series with a pair of aces on the mound, as the Tigers’ Justin Verlander (7-3, 3.39 ERA) opposes Yovani Gallardo (7-3, 2.93) at Comerica Park.

Detroit followed up Friday’s 10-4, rain-shortened victory with Saturday’s 9-5 rout, winning for the third straight game while scoring 25 runs in the process. Jim Leyland’s club carries positive streaks of 48-21 in interleague action, 39-13 in home interleague contests and 8-2 on Sunday, but it is still just 4-6 in its last 10 at home and 3-6 in its last nine at Comerica against right-handers.

Milwaukee has followed up a three-game sweep in Cleveland with the consecutive losses to the Tigers and is now 4-8 in its last 12 contests. Also, in interleague play, the Brew Crew is mired in slumps of 4-11 on the highway and 1-7 against right-handed starters.

These teams split six total meetings in 2006 and 2007, with the visitor going 4-2.

Detroit is 1-2 in Verlander’s last three starts, following a 7-1 run behind the 26-year-old. On Tuesday at St. Louis, the right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks in just four innings of an 11-2 loss. Prior to that, Verlander had thrown nine straight quality starts, going 7-0 with a 1.10 ERA.

Verlander is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA in three home starts this year. And in his lone start against Milwaukee, he threw a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 home win two years ago. Detroit is 8-3 in Verlander’s last 11 starts overall and 5-1 in his last six home starts.

Milwaukee is 8-2 in Gallardo’s last 10 starts, including Tuesday’s 7-5 victory at Cleveland in which the right-hander allowed two runs on five hits with six walks and eight strikeouts. Gallardo has given up two earned runs or less in each of his last five starts, going 3-1 with a stifling 1.43 ERA. Gallardo is 4-1 with a 2.89 ERA in seven road starts this year, and this is his first meeting against Detroit.

With Gallardo starting, the Brewers are on runs of 5-0 against winning teams and 4-1 on the highway.

Although Saturday’s game easily went over the total, the Tigers sport nothing but “under” trends, including 21-11 overall, 10-4 at home, 8-4 against right-handed starters, 7-4 in interleague play and 5-0 in Verlander’s last five home starts. On the flip side, the over for Milwaukee is on runs of 6-0 overall (all against the A.L. Central and all on the road. However, with Gallardo pitching, the under is on streaks of 15-7 overall, 11-3 and 7-1 against winning teams.

L.A. Dodgers (45-24) at L.A. Angels (36-30)

The Dodgers, with the best record in the majors, wrap up their three-game weekend set against the Angels by pitting left-hander Clayton Kershaw (3-5, 4.13 ERA) against veteran right-hander John Lackey (2-2, 6.10) in Anaheim.

The Dodgers halted their rivals seven-game winning streak with last night’s 6-2 victory, as veteran right-hander Jeff Weaver outdueled younger brother Jered Weaver. The Dodgers are now 12-5 in their last 17 road games, but they remain on interleague slides of 21-44 overall (6-5 this year) and 14-38 on the road (3-2 this year).

Although their winning streak ended Saturday, the Angels continue to sport positive streaks of 5-1 at home, 8-2 in interleague play this season (all against the N.L. West), 39-18 overall in interleague action and 19-8 versus the N.L. West.

The Angels have owned this rivalry lately, with runs of 13-6 overall (3-2 this season), 21-8 in Anaheim, 5-1 with Lackey starting against the Dodgers and 4-0 in Lackey’s last five against the Dodgers at home.

Lackey beat San Francisco 9-7 victory on Monday, allowing three runs on 10 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts in seven innings. In his lone home start this season, Lackey lost 5-2 to Seattle on May 29. However, he’s 5-1 with a solid 1.50 ERA in nine career appearances (eight starts) against the Dodgers. On May 23, he got a no-decision at Dodger Stadium, allowing three runs in seven innings, with the Angels falling 5-4.

With Lackey taking the ball, the Angels are on runs of 17-5 in interleague play and 18-7 on Sunday, but they are also on skids of 4-10 overall and 0-4 at home.

Kershaw rebounded from two straight losses by leading the Dodgers to a 5-4 home win over Oakland on Tuesday, throwing 5 2/3 shutout innings as he worked four hits and three walks around 10 strikeouts, but he got a no-decision. The 21-year-old is 2-3 with an inflated 6.75 ERA in six road starts this season, and in his only career start against the Angels, he got a no-decision in a 3-1 defeat, giving up a run on four hits and four walks in five innings.

With Kershaw on the hill, the Dodgers are on slides of 1-4 against winning teams and 1-4 in interleague play, though they have won four of his last five Sunday starts.

The Dodgers are on “under” runs of 6-2 on the highway, 12-5 in interleague action, 38-16-3 in American League parks and 13-7 versus the N.L. West. Also, the under for the Angels is on stretches of 11-6 at home, 5-1 in Lackey’s last six home starts, 16-5-3 behind Lackey in interleague play and 7-1 with Lackey facing the Dodgers.

Finally, although the first two games of this weekend set have gone over the total, the under is still 9-6 in the last 15 meetings overall and 14-7-1 in the last 22 battles in Anaheim.

Props to the amateurs for getting some screen time and making the most of it, especially the one who got stuck in the weeds, chopped and missed (looked like me), and then proceeded to drop it in from the bunker. Some nice play in the slop.

Milwaukee (37-29) at Detroit (35-31)

The surging Brewers will send right-hander Braden Looper (5-3, 4.62) to the mound at Comerica Park for the opener of a three-game interleague set against the Tigers, who will counter with right-hander Armando Galarraga (3-7, 5.56).

Milwaukee is coming off a three-game road sweep of Cleveland, piling up 30 runs but also allowing 25, capped by a 9-8, 11-inning victory Wednesday night. The Brewers are on positive streaks of 5-1 on the highway, 14-3 in series openers and 20-6 against winning teams, but despite their success against the last-place Indians, they remain just 4-9 in their last 13 interleague roadies.

Detroit avoided a three-game sweep at St. Louis by posting a 6-3 victory Thursday night, halting a four-game skid in the process as it wrapped up an 11-game road trip with a 5-6 record. The Tigers, who lead the A.L. Central, are on upswings of 46-21 in interleague play and 37-14 in home interleague contests, but they are also on slides of 14-29 in series openers, 2-6 at home overall and 3-6 against winning teams.

These two squads last met in 2007, with visiting Milwaukee taking two of three, after Detroit took two of three on the road in 2006.

Looper got no-decisions in his last two starts, both Milwaukee losses, including Sunday’s 5-4 home setback to the White Sox. Despite an inflated 6.89 career ERA against Detroit, Looper is 3-1 in eight appearances (two starts), and the veteran is 2-2 with a 5.19 ERA in five road starts this season. On the bright side, the Brew Crew is 6-1 in Looper’s last seven starts against winning teams.

Detroit has dropped seven of Galarraga’s last nine starts, with the righty failing to record a win since April 26. Galarraga is 0-7 in those nine outings, allowing 38 runs in 45 1/3 innings, for a bloated 7.54 ERA. In his lone career start against St. Louis, he allowed five runs (four earned) in 4 2/3 innings last June, though Detroit posted an 8-7 home win. The 27-year-old is 2-3 with a 5.17 ERA in six home starts this year.

The Tigers are 4-1 in Galarraga’s last five starts against winning teams, but they’re 1-5 in his last six series openers.

The over for Milwaukee is on surges of 4-0 overall (all in interleague play), 4-0 on the road, 7-2 as an interleague pup and 5-1 with Looper facing a winning team. On the flip side, Detroit carries “under” runs of 21-9 overall, 10-2 at home, 9-3 against winning teams and 20-8-1 in interleague play.

L.A. Dodgers (44-23) at L.A. Angels (35-29)

The streaking Angels trot out southpaw Joe Saunders (7-4, 3.66 ERA) to open their three-game Freeway Series with the neighborhood rival Dodgers, who will start ace right-hander Chad Billingsley (9-3, 2.72).

The Angels have swept their last two series, both against the National League West. Last weekend, they took three straight from San Diego at home, then went north to San Francisco where they scored three more victories against the Giants, capped by Wednesday’s 4-3 victory. During the six-game winning streak,, the Angels’ offense has been explosive, racking up 47 runs while allowing just 18. The Angels have won their last four series openers and are on further streaks of 4-0 at home, 18-5 against the N.L. West and 38-17 in interleague play.

The Dodgers have won four of their last five, most recently taking two of three from Oakland, including Thursday’s 3-2 victory to close out a three-game home set. The Dodgers are on upswings of 42-20 overall and 11-4 on the road, but they are on purges of 20-43 in their last 63 interleague contests and 14-37 in their last 51 interleague roadies. They are also on a 5-17 slide against left-handers from the American League.

The Angels took two of three at Dodger Stadium last month and are on further runs in this rivalry of 12-5 overall and 20-7 on their home field.

Saunders shut down the visiting Padres in his last start, allowing one run (a solo homer) on seven hits and a walk in 8 1/3 innings of a 9-1 home win Saturday. In three starts prior to that, the lefty gave up 13 earned runs over 19 1/3 innings (6.05 ERA), with the Angels losing all three contests. Saunders is 3-2 with a 2.74 ERA in six home starts this year, and he’s 1-1 with a 2.92 ERA in two career starts against the Dodgers.

With Saunders taking the ball, the Angels are on runs of 52-24 overall, 5-1 in interleague play, 20-6 in series openers and 28-13 at home.

Billingsley has followed up a two-game slide – including a loss to the Angels – with three straight victories, allowing a total of five runs in 18 2/3 innings (2.41 ERA). On Sunday at Texas, he yielded three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk as the Dodgers notched a 6-3 victory. The 24-year-old is 3-1 with a solid 1.94 ERA in six road starts this season.

Billingsley dropped to 1-2 with a 2.45 ERA in five career appearances (three starts) against the Angels with last month’s 10-7, series-concluding loss, yielding five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk in six innings. Still, the Dodgers are on several strong runs behind Billingsley, including 11-3 overall, 5-1 on the road and 4-1 in interleague play.

The over is 5-2-1 in the Angels’ last seven games, all against the N.L. West. However, the Halos are also on ‘under” runs of 10-3 against righties and 5-1 in Saunders’ last six interleague starts. In addition, the under for the Dodgers is on rolls of 6-1 on the road, 6-1 against winning teams, 12-4 in interleague games and 4-0-2 in Billingsley’s last six road outings.

Finally, the total has stayed low in nine of the last 13 meetings overall in this rivalry and is 9-3-1 in the last 13 battles in Anaheim.

The streaking Red Sox send left-hander Jon Lester (5-5, 4.76 ERA) to the hill at Fenway Park to wrap up a three-game interleague series with the Marlins, who are scheduled to counter with right-hander Ricky Nolasco (2-6, 7.62).

Boston has taken the first two games of this series by scores of 8-2 and 6-1 and has now won seven of its last eight overall and five straight at home to surge into first place in the American League East. The Red Sox, who now have the best record in the A.L., are on additional runs of 12-3 overall, 57-19 in interleague play, 40-12 in interleague home contests, 41-14 on Thursday and a lengthy 88-37 at Fenway.

The Marlins, who had won three in a row entering this series, are now just 8-19 in their last 27 games as an underdog. They have fared well against southpaws, with current streaks of 6-1 overall and 14-5 on the road.

The Red Sox have now won five of the last six in this interleague rivalry and five of the last six in Boston.

With Lester on the hill, Boston has won three in a row and eight of 11, including a 5-2 victory at Philadelphia on Friday night in which the lefty allowed just two hits, two walks and one run while striking out 11 in seven innings. That effort followed a complete-game, 8-1 home win over Texas. Lester, who has given up exactly one run in three straight starts and four of his last five, is 3-2 with 4.06 ERA in six home starts this season.

The Sox are on further runs behind Lester of 6-0 against the National League East, 8-1 in interleague play and 24-5 at home. In Lester’s lone career start against Florida in 2006, he surrendered two runs on seven hits in five innings, getting a no-decision in Boston’s 4-3 victory in South Beach.

Florida is 2-4 in Nolasco’s last six starts, with the righty going 1-4 and getting pounded for 28 earned runs in 31 2/3 innings (7.95 ERA). However, since returning from a brief demotion to Triple-A, Nolasco has been much more effective, allowing just four earned runs in 13 innings in two starts. On Friday at Toronto, he gave up two runs on five hits and a walk, striking out nine over six innings in a 7-3 victory.

Despite the strong outing in Toronto, Nolasco is still only 1-3 with a 7.12 ERA in seven road starts this year, and this is his first career meeting with Boston. With Nolasco throwing, the Marlins are on slides of 1-5 overall against winning teams and 1-4 on the road against winning teams.

The under for Boston is on tears of 21-7-3 overall, 6-0-2 at home, 4-1 with Lester starting, 6-0-1 with Lester going on five days’ rest and 5-1 behind the lefty in interleague action. On the flip side, the over for Miami is on rolls of 5-1-1 overall, 21-6-5 in interleague action, 7-1-2 in interleague roadies, 9-2 behind Nolasco this season and 6-0 with the righty throwing on the road.

Finally, in this rivalry, the over is on upticks of 5-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Boston.

Detroit (34-31) at St. Louis (36-30)

The Tigers wrap up an 11-game road trip by trotting out upstart rookie right-hander Rick Porcello (7-4, 3.71 ERA) as they try to avoid getting swept by the Cardinals, who will hand the ball to fellow righty Joel Pineiro (5-7, 3.99).

Detroit got pounded 11-2 Tuesday in the series opener, then came back Wednesday and fell 4-3. The Tigers have dropped four in a row and are now 4-6 on their current road trip, scoring a total of 19 runs in their last seven games. Despite the recent struggles, Detroit remains on hot streaks of 45-21 in interleague play, 13-8 in interleague road games and 23-13 against the N.L. Central.

Prior to taking the first two games of this series, the Redbirds had lost seven of nine overall and four straight at home. They’re now 11-3 in their last 14 games against teams with a winning record, and they’ve won 11 consecutive Thursday contests.

Going back to the start of the 2006 season, the home team has won 14 of the last 16 head-to-head clashes in this rivalry, including the World Series.

Detroit has won seven of Porcello’s last eight starts, including a 3-1 victory Friday at Pittsburgh in which the 20-year-old allowed one run on six hits and a walk in seven innings. Porcello has gone 6-1 with a 2.52 ERA in those eight games, throwing 46 1/3 innings. He is 4-2 with a 3.25 ERA in six road starts this season, and the Tigers have won four of his last five on the highway.

The Cardinals have lost four in a row behind Pineiro, mostly due to poor run support, with St. Louis scoring just nine total runs in that span. On Friday at Cleveland, the 30-year-old yielded three runs on seven hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings of a 7-3 loss. Pineiro is 3-2 with a 2.52 ERA in five home starts this year, and he’s a solid 6-1 with a 2.82 ERA in 10 career appearances (eight starts) against the Tigers.

St. Louis is 5-2 in Pineiro’s last seven outings at Busch, but it has also come up empty in the rigthy’s last five interleague starts.

The Tigers are on a bundle of “under” streaks, including 21-8 overall, 5-2 on the road, 12-4-1 in interleague road games and 22-7 against right-handed starters. Also, St. Louis is on “under” tears of 11-5 at home, 15-7-1 against right-handed starters, 6-1-1 against the American League and 7-1 in interleague home games. Finally, the under is 5-2 in the last seven Tigers-Cardinals meetings at Busch Stadium.
