Smick has scissorhands and sexy legs!
Smick has scissorhands and sexy legs!

Boise, Idaho offered several unique experiences, unique depending on one’s own personal perception that is.

First off we realized that the fuel pump that had been running slightly erratic back in Portland was now inoperable (yet, it got us there regardless…..how cool is that?!) and needed to be replaced forthwith. We headed to the local Auto Zone, smack dab in the heart of Boise, and sought out the proper replacement part. The men running the shop were incredibly helpful and friendly. I experienced that neighborly type feel of camaraderie in Boise at just about very turn. The guys opened a new pack of tools from the shelf and offered them to Smick, along with the use of the parking lot to get the job done.

With the fuel pump successfully installed we headed out to check out the town and, well I am not quite sure, wander around as we do, I suppose.

We soon discovered, much to our dismay that the new, ‘universal’ fuel pump was not going to work for our quirky bus. It was pumping fuel too fast and much to powerfully and was flooding the float bowls and in turn causing the carburetors to sputter and spit out the left overs. Not only was this highly inefficient, after about a half an hour or so the Bus was barely drivable. Auto Zone was closed for the night. Humpft.

We did have a funny sort of run in as a result. We were tring to get to the nearest, safest place to camp for the night. Le Wal Mart in this case, but the Bus was pitching a fit, jerking back and forth, coughing and wheezing. It was quite a challenge getting down the main drag, you can imagine. In fact, we ended up geting pulled over for driving so erratically. The fun part in all of this was the cop that pulled us over, after having accurately assessed that we were not under the influence, heard our reason for disrupting the common ebb and flow of small-town-city driving and he turned all goofy on us. He became excited in a very boyish sort of way, and insisted on helping us get the Bus going again. Mind you, he was not interested in getting his hands dirty, but he did offer the assistance of his flood lights and his authority to control traffic until we were properly (?) back on the road. Once we found our awkward roll back on the street, he honked and waved and I suppose wished us well.

Now those are reality pics.

I didn’t know you knew so much about how to fix a car? Did Smick write part of this post?

I am really loving these stories of all the folks your meeting. Can’t wait for more. One of my favorite parts of your journey, it’s almost like being there.

It’s nice to see that protect and serve is still in effect around this great land. We so often hear about the “bad” cops in the news, but not quite so often about these quiet acts of kindness and service from law enforcement.

Keep on your journey; may you find what you are looking for and when you do keep on looking because there is so much you wouldn’t know to even seek.

My favorite part of the trip has been the people as well zoe. I don’t know whether to be flattered by your comment about my seemingly well versed knowlege on cars (no, smick did not write part of the post, nor help) or wonder if perhaps you might not know that much about cars? Hmmm…

While I am not normally found under the hood, well back hatch in the case of the bus, I am a good helper and I pay attention.

It is amazing how much one can learn by just observing, listening and participating in small parts. Another great example of this, is just how much I have learned about computers solely by hanging around the likes of you! I am almost ready for a C++ certification I think! No joke though, you have been a great teacher in my life.

Oh, and Trader Dan your sentiments are well heard and taken to heart!

Like most of us, I disdain the news and all of the negative reports and opinions spread…however, I can assure you in our experiences so far, we have not meet a bad cop yet! They have all been helpful and have been doing their jobs well.

Welcome to Outdoor Adventure

Hello, my name is zoe and I will be moderating the outdoor adventure community for a while.

Thanks for coming by. We’re just getting started here and need your help to get things going. I am a big mountain biking fan and try to ride as much as I can, and also love to kayak in the ocean here in California but haven’t been out in a while. Unfortunately work has been keeping me pretty busy. So doubly I’m gonna need your help knowing what stories, images, and features you would most like to see here. For now, please sign up, join the community, get your profile filled out so other people will know a little about you, and start posting some stories about your outdoor adventures.
