Green Dating: “You Date. We Donate Trees.”
Amanda Nguyen 5 months ago // 2 responses // Subscribe Green Life Gibber-gabber

Do you recycle? Are you the fashionable reusable bag grocery shopper? Do you ride a bicycle? Take advantage of public transportation? Generally (or wholly) are you an environmentalist? Most importantly, are you a lover? Well, have I the site to introduce: datefortrees.com.

DateForTrees is an on-line dating service website, similar to others, but with a twist. For the initial sign-up, DateForTrees and American Forests will donate a tree (and for every month after for each paid user) in an effort to counter deforestation. DateForTrees is certainly for lovers and tree-huggers.

I like the concept and the goal, but I’m afraid of online dating. Couldn’t I just mail them a tree instead?

But considering all the online dating services out there, I suppose I’d rather see this one succeed.

What are your thoughts on global warming? As a freak of nature of listens to both NPR and Rush Limbaugh, I am extremely frustrated and confused by conflicting science. In fact this is one of my many frustrations with the modern world. There are so many authorities on everything, and yet no one agrees on anything. Which would be fine if we weren’t such a violent and intolerant species.

I’ll stop. NO reason to hijack your post with my ranting.

I love trees (especially in mountains). I love love. Everybody datefortrees.com tonight. And everybody Wang Chung tonight

I agree, I do like the concept of DateForTrees, however, I am not ecstatic about on-line dating anyway (but that may be another conversation). I was more weary about the site because I did not uncover to where the trees are sent, what type of trees are sent, and at what cost to the sponsors and partners. Maybe I did not research enough.

In any other case, global warming undoubtedly is natural; of course Earth experiences warming and cooling fluctuations. Although, I do believe that humans provoke strengthened measures to the rapid warming to our beloved Mother.

I have this inkling, though, that the website may do well because of the recent “green washing” with which the media spoon-feeds us—rather, regurgitates into our throats. This sounds bleak, but I do have faith in people and I hope “green washing” is the initial and the final, through and through.

If not, I may bombard the White House with calls, masking myself as a utilities customer representative concerned with their profound interest in a high air-conditioning bill and imposing interest on the behemoth that is fossil fuel dependency. Wake up, Kyoto is calling!
