Floxter.com…people helping people…and companies..and themselves?

As I periodically review the site stats, I am often interested in what sites are referring traffic to us. Recently I have seen a trickle of traffic coming from http://www.floxter.com/ . Finally when I found a free moment I actually went and checked it out.

Apparently Floxter is some kind of shared human energy web application that reminds of me of distributed or grid computing as is used in the SETI@home project . In this case though the grid is not your computer, but you.

From the Floxter home page:

FLOXTER.COM connects users from all around the world to process human intensive work through our online platform, which is built to scale and to ensure quality of work.

Solve simple tasks online and get paid! Receive reward payments via PayPal or donate your reward to support a charitable project of one of our charity partners World Vision, Greenpeace, UNO – Flüchtlingshilfe.

There are various charities and causes to support such as getting mosquito nets for people in Africa to help stop the spread of malaria. So while helping people companies and organizations can get repetitive tasks taken care of at some reasonable rate. Very interesting. It reminds me of web projects many years ago now. I need to put together an article about sites that help people connect and help other people, like Prosper .

Unfortunately the Floxter site was a little convoluted for me to figure out in the brief time I had to check it out today, but it was interesting enough that I will be heading back. So I thought I would share a link with you to see what you think.

Visit Floxter and then tell me what you think. I’m still trying to figure out what could possbily be linking to our site from there.

Update, dug deeper in analytics, and sadly some page at Floxter ”/tools/badcontentdetector” is linking to my community blog post Fixing a leaky faucet which reminds me that I still haven’t actually fixed the faucet. What is wrong with me? Thank you Floxter and “badcontentdetector”. Though I am little concerned about what is wrong with my content and why Floxter cares!
