UFC 85 is upon us! I posted a few thoughts on UFC 84 and a few early plays on this event as the lines were up then. I have a few sides i will be playing and i will list them in order.
Mike Swick-115. I really like the price for Swick and me being a fan of the Swick-o-tine is probably swaying my thoughts a little. Swick 11-2-0 with his losses coming to Okami and that little fucker Leban in a WEC match. Notable wins against Loizo and Riggs. Swick a kickboxer vs. Davis (irish hand grenade;definately gets the knickname nod) Militich Camp submission guy. but lets be serious although 14-3-0 there really isn’t an impressive fight i can remember in the group, unless you want to call a decision to an old Shonie Carter impressive. Swick is quick and a better stand up guy and i really don’t see him being scared to go to the ground. This could be a boring fight and again a decision but i hope Swick just knocks him out so the next fight can start.
Brandon Vera-160. i got him at -130 a few weeks ago. This is far from a no brainer. 8-1-0 with the one loss coming to my guy Tim Sylvia via decision. Tim Sylvia is a much bigger guy than Vera but Vera’s other 3 UFC fights have been over in the first round including a victory over veteran Frank Mir. Knockout specialist gets the win over Werdum 10-3-1. Werdum is a tough tough dude and for any Pride guys they should know him well. 2 pride losses and 1 to Noguirera. Lost to Arlovski, back when Arlovski could fight. 2 wins over Gabe Gonzaga, 1 UFC that i think impressed and shocked a lot of people. this is a classic ground and pound submission BJJ fighter vs. a stand up elbow and kneww throwin badass. I like Vera to get a hard fought win in round 3, possibly a decision if Werdum slows it to his pace. Vera’s got crazy bows.
Jason Lambert-165. i think this is easy money. Lambert is huge, and to be quite honest with you, I have no idea who Cane is and no clue about anyone he fought so there. Lambert is big and this i know so I’m takin em!
Nate Marquardt-165. Thsi guy is the king of fuckin Pancrase man! Seriously. So he lost to Spider Silva, who hasn’t? Other than that this guy is a veteran who has fought multiple fights int he same night more than a few times. Again, i am a fan so I am swayed. Submission MACHINE with knockout power and can take it too. Again with Lietes I just don’t know much about him besides the fact that he is from Brazil which means BJJ and probably a ground fight. we could see submissions and escapes and reversals we have never seen before in this one. People who like MMA should enjoy this fight for what it is and people that like the knockout, well go get a beer during this one.
Other fights
DOGS-Thiago Alves +165. All this is is my hatred of Matt Hughes
Too much juice but winners- Mike Bisping -350 Won every fight with a ton of KO’s…....except Rashad Evans. It’ll be a win.
Dog of the night- Matt Wiman +300. Look there is a reason the guy is +300 but he also beat my friend once so i have to go with him. He’ll be looking for this to be his make or break contract fight with the UFC I think.
So its fighting. there is usually too much juice for a sure thing and underdogs are usually the way i go in betting fighting. plus I always root for the dog when I am not a true fan of someone. but this UFC the numbers seem to be ok, like betting a Yankee game with Wang on the mound, for making some $$$. Keep in mind I am not guaranteeing winners here peeps, just throwin knowledge out about the fighters when I have it. These are all plays for me but I also lost $300 betting 3 dogs last time UFC 84 (damn you and that armbar Tito!!!) So read it, fade it, play it. It’s your $$$.
Lets just hope the fights bring some excitement as MMA has been on a little roll lately and hopefully its momentum continues. Otherwise we have to watch ugh…..boxing for fight entertainment. And truthfully if I wanted to watch a rigged event of 2 guys hugging I would rent gay porn.
Good luck
