Evacuated from the evacuation site!
Evacuated from the evacuation site!

We suffered trekking through winds that reached over 40 mph for a shower last night. We decided to hike into the campsite in Half Moon Bay for yet one more hot shower, all the while planning on hitting the road directly after warming our bones and cleaning our hides. However when the sun went down and the wind flew up we decided that it was unsafe, or at the least not desirable to drive the Bus under these conditions.

We had been in Half Moon Bay for many days now, and were both eagar to experience something new, the next leg of our journey and content to rest there one more night, waiting for the winds to die down, it had been a comfortable and welcoming place to us.

A few days prior we noticed the town has Tsunami Evacuation Site signs, embossed with arrows, leading to what we discovered to be a very nice, marginally large parking lot surrounded by a very beautiful wooded area. We decided to camp out there for the night, breaking away from what has become our norm…the residential areas.

We were up a bit later that usual, it was about 11:30pm and we had just finished having a cup of cider each, to ward of the wind and the chill, when we were approached by the cops. This was the first time we had officially been rousted, though our second encounter with the Police (more on that soon) and it went very well, in my opinion.

The officer was polite, bordering friendly even, but he told us we absolutely could not stay the night there. He told us that there have been serious problems in that spot as of late. We told him we just saw some kids up here throwing beer bottles out the window. He replied that that was the least of his worries. Wow.

He told us that the closest place to sleep for free was in the next town over (of course) at a Taco Bell. Egad!! He said it is not a regular Taco Bell, that is is made out of wood.

Being so late and not wanting to breed any trouble, we packed it up and made a run for the border!
