NBA Playoffs Are Here – Your Thoughts??

The playoffs are set to start, with an unbelievable balance in the western conference. There are no guarantees this year, and it should be great to watch! Kobe is almost a no-brainer for MVP at this point with the Lakers securing the #1 seed in the western conference and the Hornets dropping a few games a the end, including a big game against LA. Now, it all begins. Here are the first round match-ups:

Denver Nuggets vs Los Angeles Lakers

Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs

Dallas Mavericks vs New Orleans Hornets

Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets

Washington Wizards vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Toronto Raptors vs Orlando Magic

Philadelphia 76ers vs Detroit Pistons

Atlanta Hawks vs Boston Celtics

Any upsets in the first round? Probably. The most obvious that jumps out is the possible elimination of the defending champs. Will Shaq actually be the difference maker for the Suns? Probably not, but the dysfunction is also not there, which may give the Suns the boost they are looking for in this first round (and what could easily have been the western finals) match-up.

My pick for the upset in the first round is the Philadelphia 76ers. People are bored of the Pistons. They are awful for ratings and awful to watch play, and are due for an early exit. The sixers have played great in the second half of the season, and this should be a great match-up. I could see this going the distance at the very least.

As for Kobe vs KG in the finals? Obviously the NBA and ABC would love that. Dream match-ups rarely happen, but seeing them both end up as the #1 seeds sets the table for what could be the best playoffs we have seen in years…

I do agree with Scott that this will be the best NBA Playoffs in the last decade. There are some exciting first round matchups to break down. THe Western Conference alone will be amazing to watch. The Eastern Conference will be exciting as a few new teams slide into the playoffs. Lets break down some of the matchups.

UTAH JAZZ -220 HOUSTON ROCKETS…. There is just no chance for Houston to win this series. T Mac doesn’t get to the second round ever, and it won’t happen here. Far too many matchup problems for Houston. They have no chance of shutting down Deron Williams. Rafer Alston doesn’t play defense, and it won’t happen against one of the best point guards in the league. Once Williams drives into the paint, look for his to destribute to anyone he wants. He alone can control this series far more than T Mac can. Utah wins this series in five games.

WIZARDS +105 CAVALIERS…... Unbelievable value here for the Wizards. They have an incredible top 3 of Jamison, Butler, and Arenas. People tend to forget the job DeShawn Stevenson has done for them as well, especially defensively. Let’s face it, the Cavs are hurting, especially Lebron James. You know the Wizards have all the revenge in the world, and will do anything to win this series. These two teams are headed in different directions. I side with the team on the rise. The Wizards just have too many options offensively for the hurting LeBron Cavaliers. With the public all over the Cavs, you should be on the Wizards. I am.

HORNETS -145 MAVERICKS…........... I laughed when i saw this line. I knew it would be low, but not this low. What do the Hornets have to do to earn some respect?? You don’t finish 2nd in the west this year as a fluke. They are the real deal. With home court advantage, they can end this series in five games. The Mavericks are old, and very overrated. Nowitzki coming back at the end of the year, and Dallas finishing strong in it’s last five games only creates more value here for the Hornets. We once again side with a point guard who has the ability to get where he wants, whenever he wants. They will beat the Maverics, and at this short price, you have to jump on them.

To me, these are the top three series to bet on with regards to Series Betting. After each round, i will break down each new series matchup. For this first round, i only gave matchups that i find the most valuable to bet on in my opinion. Best of luck however you decide to wager, just remember to be smart, and have some fun! TSB Mike.

Good call so far on Philly TSB Scott! I certainly didn’t see that coming. I disagree though on the Spurs/Suns. The Spurs have way too much experience and leadership to lose this series. They showed that in game one. The suns will probably push it to 6, maybe even 7, but I see an early exit for Shaq unless the NBA puts the fix in so he can face Kobe in round two…

I also liked the Wizards against the Cavs, but after looking dominant the entire game, they fell apart at the end and let Lebron take them apart inside. Horrible defense allowing wide open lanes. I guess that is what happens when you call the king overrated… Game two should go to the Wizards though.

Good job on the weekend guys with your picks. Keep it up so we can keep winning!!

How bad are the Suns? Shaq is like a cinderblock tied to Steve Nash’s leg, dragging him and the entire team down. It is embarrassing. Steven A Smith on ESPN said they should change the rules so Shaq, and others like him can’t be fouled at the end of games like this. The simple fact is, Shaq can’t shoot free throws, and now that age has caught up with his knees, his inside game does not make up for his lack of talent at the line. He is done. Good career Shaq, glad we had you on LA when we did. Go be a full-time police officer in Miami.

And not to rub it in, but how about my Philly call so far in the Detroit series? They may or may not take the Pistons out, but hard to argue them hammering Detroit both inside and out so far…

Ok – Round 1 is done. There were some really strong series, and some obvious weak ones too. Philly played Detroit tough, and Atlanta almost knocked out the top ranked Celtics. The beating the Celtics put on in game 7 reminds everyone how good they actually are. When Atlanta shoots 46 free throws in game 6, you know something is up. Here are my predictions for round two:

Lakers in 6 over Utah

New Orleans in 6 over the Spurs

Boston in 5 over Cleveland

Orlando over Detroit in 7 (my upset pick with Orlando already down a game)

The Utah Jazz are tougher than most people think. Down by 19, they did make a push to cut the lead down to 4 or 5 at one point, looking like the might cover. I could see them stealing game two from LA, and going home with a split.

Same thing in Orlando. Detroit played them tough in game one, but look for game two to be a different story with Howard playing his game of the year. 6 blocks, 15 boards and 20+ points at Detroit.

New Orleans – I actually think that they take the first two from San Antonio. They are up one right now, and I see them taking game two as well. Paul is playing great right now, and they have what it takes to beat the defending champs.

Cleveland is not nearly good enough to face the Celtics. They beat Washington purely on hate for that team, and Lebron by himself. This series will be a different story. I could see a sweep here, as a beat up Lebron just can’t do enough against this team.
