Introduction to the BOOSTZILLA Supercharger System

The BOOSTZILLA Supercharger System (BZILLA) was developed with Dali Racing by an eccentric local San Diego performance FI tuner.

Our BZILLA system was developed after some beers Beer Chuggin and at least a week of R&D, our primary aim being to overcome as many of the shortcomings of the currently existing forced induction products for the NSX as possible; and still have a kit that was as affordable and as easy to maintain/fun to drive as the car it was designed for.

Performance

A common complaint from NSX owners (especially in the Forums Banging head against wall smiley) is for more and more power. The BZILLA was designed to offer a linear power curve consistently delivered across the entire usable RPM band, and it does. The BZILLA delivers consistent peak power gains of over 90-170 rear wheel horsepower depending upon the configuration you choose.

Reliability

The most important aspect of the developmental process for this system was NOT winning the peak HP number game; but reliability. Keeping the KISS* method firmly in mind, a track testing program was initiated BEFORE bringing the BZILLA kit to market to subject the kit to more use than any street driver would normally attempt. All systems have been subjected to real world use testing for reliability of both structural and fuel delivery systems. The 7075 aluminum structural components were tested by computer stress analysis programs for maximum structural rigidity and went through 4 design refinements prior to the final piece. Simple yet effective fuel systems are utilized for maximum performance with reliability and safety in the base kit. Stage 2-3-4 kits use more sophisticated piggyback and standalone computers..

Design

The BZILLA incorporates several design features that take into consideration the unique application packaging challenges posed by the NSX. The BZILLA was designed to be as non invasive addition to your car as possible with a primary design principle of balancing performance WITH reliability.

One design consideration was to develop a supercharger kit that fits under the factory engine cover & shock tower braces for lower cost and to enable “stealth installs”. The BZILLA fits properly under both the coupe and T-Top engine covers without modification to any parts. We are currently looking at the T-Top strutbar issue to see what we can do about that.

As all superchargers are belt driven, the BZILLA is driven by a simple but well wrapped belt drive system using hard anodized billet 6061 idler pulleys and the OEM 5 rib A/C, alternator and main crank pulley. Some of the other kits on the market use non OEM main crank pulleys – we feel that Acura put the harmonic balancer design Main Crank pulley on the NSX for a good reason – so we have retained the OEM crank pulley in ALL kits.

This allows the BZILLA to be placed optimally for tidy packaging and efficient performance resulting in maximum RWHP at the lowest cost per HP on the market. Our design also allows the factory alternator, coolant tank and fuse box to remain in their factory positions unmodified. Unlike other supercharger systems for the NSX, cars equipped with the BZILLA can also change their oil without burned fingers and impossible to recover when dropped oil filler caps.

The BZILLA can also be installed without drilling holes in your firewall for the overflow tank attachment, and the BZILLA also comes with a “free” (because we designed it that way) “cold air” intake – no aftermarket or home made “Home Depot Intake” mods are needed to get outside the engine compartment air to the SC. This lowers intake temps = more HP. The BZILLA has the lowest intake temps of any non intercooled kit on the market today – we measured them.

All 4 BOOSTZILLA Supercharger Systems are complete including: Vortech supercharger , belt, 7075 bracket assembly & grade 10.9 mounting hardware, and fuel system management; which can include; (depending upon the kit selected) larger fuel pump, fuel regulator, larger fuel injectors, intercooler, FMU computer etc. All BZILLA kits will currently be installed at our shop only.

At some point in the future we may release the kits to certain approved shops for local installs in your area. While we think about how we want to implement that, feel free to come out and have it done here – the weather has to be better here than where you are.
